Mepitac and Mepiform. What's the difference?

Mepitac and Mepiform. What's the difference?

The Epaderm ANZ online store has been up and running for 6 months now, and we've been receiving wonderful feedback on how Epaderm is helping manage dry skin conditions.

We want to tell you more about our other products, specifically our Scar Therapy and Silicone Tape products that have confusingly similar names: Mepitac and Mepiform.

Mepitac and Mepiform are both medical products produced by Mölnlycke, but they serve different purposes:

Mepitac is a silicone-based tape designed for gentle fixation of medical devices or dressings on sensitive or fragile skin. Mepitac is particularly useful in securing dressings for wounds and can be easily removed without causing additional trauma to the skin.

Mepiform is a self-adherent, thin, and flexible silicone dressing specifically designed for the management of both old and new hypertrophic and keloid scars. Mepiform helps to flatten, soften, and fade raised scars over time through its unique silicone technology.  Mepiform is clinically proven to minimise the appearance of both new and old scars.*

In summary, Mepitac is used for gentle fixation of dressings on sensitive skin, while Mepiform is used specifically for the management of new, hypertrophic and keloid scars.
