Our Story

Epaderm is a brand of emollient developed by doctors at the Royal Victoria Infirmary which is in Newcastle upon Tyne in the United Kingdom back in the 1980's. It was originally created for eczema-suffering babies and worked so well, it was quickly adopted by parents outside of the hospital setting. Manufacture of Epaderm was moved to Oldham, UK where it is still made to this day.

Whats the difference between Epaderm Ointment and Epaderm Cream?

Epaderm Ointment and Epaderm Cream are both TGA approved medical products used for skin care, particularly in conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and dry skin. The main difference between the two lies in their composition and consistency:

  1. Epaderm Ointment: This is an ointment formulation, which means it has a thick texture. It typically contains a higher percentage of fats (e.g., paraffin) and fewer water-based ingredients. Ointments are often used to create a protective barrier over the skin, preventing moisture loss and promoting healing.
  2. Epaderm Cream: The cream formulation, on the other hand, is lighter than the ointment. It contains a balance of fats and water-based ingredients. Creams are generally easier to apply and absorb into the skin compared to ointments.

Both products are designed to provide moisture and help soothe and repair dry or irritated skin. The choice between the ointment and cream depends on individual preferences, the severity of the skin condition, and the specific area of the body where the product will be applied.
